I guess by reading the title you think I’m going to go into some boring, dramatic description of how we all have different perspectives, maybe mention Plato’s allegory of the cave…
I probably will …
But… will it be boring?
That’s also a perspective.
Take these pictures for example. I’m sure you must have seen them before.
What was your first impression of these images? Did you see the vase first? The man playing the sax? Or did you first see the woman and the two people facing each other?
As you can see we each view the image differently. Though I’m sure you can switch your perspectives, there is one that your eyes are constantly drawn to.
In life, perspectives, (or point of views) are constantly being thrown at us. From the indoctrination of social media like Instagram, to movies, TV shows, and even pressure from our peers. How do YOU sort through it all?
Maybe you agree with the majority. Maybe you don’t even care. But maybe you’re the one listening to what’s going on and standing out as different because of your perspective.
Today people are losing friends, opportunities, and important relationships because of the perspective that the other person has.
I have two challenges for you.
- Re-evaluate your perspective and if it lines up with Scripture.
- Evaluate someone else’s perspective and be respectful about it.
I find too many do not think for themselves, and instead go along with the crowd. Their whole viewpoint is formed not because they really know much about it, but because others around them feed them information. So, have a good look at your perspective on things, challenge yourself. Does it make sense? Do you even understand why you have that perspective?
And if someone shares their perspective, though it disagrees with yours, either have a good logical conversation about it, or shut up. Don’t be disrespectful to them, it is quite self degrading. And by logical conversation, I don’t mean spouting facts you’ve heard… I mean facts you’ve looked up, things you’ve thought about.
If you haven’t looked it up, if you don’t know much about it then why have an opinion, or even try to share your opinion with someone else?
